When work and life align

Jay Cooke State Park

The latest book in my arsenal is called “Designing your Life, how to build a well-lived, joyful life,” by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. It’s two college professors sharing their course content and there are really helpful activities at the end of each chapter.

This morning the part that stuck with me is the chapter about building a compass. There are questions about work view and life view, and then these questions:

·       Where do your views on work and life complement one another?

·       Where do they clash?

·       Does one drive the other? How?

Good questions, right? They say when your workview and lifeview are in harmony with each other, you increase your clarity and ability to live a consciously coherent, meaningful life. Essentially, an accurate compass. They even use the term True North, which has more meaning for Minnesotans.

Here’s hoping your work and life are in alignment. And here’s hoping you will take time to explore your options if they are not.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
