My Daily Horoscope - It’s all you need!
I’ve been receiving a daily horoscope email for years and years. I don’t often open the email to read the entire message, but the first few words are fun to ponder for a minute before moving on to the next email. Sometimes I click on it to see if it aligns with what I’m up to at the moment.
The horoscope for today, however, really caught my eye. It could be the place my brain was at, following an excellent book club meeting I attended last night. Part of NAWBO-MN’s programming, we read a book I would not have chosen for myself, but which magnificently opened my eyes to an entire perspective I’ve not thought of before.
The book is Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, by Caroline Criado Pérez. Her insights on the lack of data specific to women was, frankly, mind-blowing. She shows how data gathering always uses men as the default. Even when there is evidence it’s detrimental to the female body, health needs, etc., the data is about men, the default is the male body.
I must admit I jumped to the end when only part way through the book to see if it had a hopeful ending. Hmm, not really. We’ve made little progress. From seatbelts for pregnant women to bullet proof vests for law enforcement, the expectation is women will need to adjust, rather than designs need to be adjusted.
The book was jarring, and the conversation with four other very smart women was energizing. The conversation leader asked a brilliant question of each of us – what can we do to impact the default to men that is pervasive throughout not just the US but the world? Great question, which led to insightful answers.
Back to the horoscope. Here is my horoscope for today, a fitting comment following an excellent book read and discussion.
Leo Daily Horoscope
March 6, 2024: It only takes one person to help you see the world clearly. Important folks are taking center stage as Mars moves through your 7th House of Relationships, but that energy takes a turn for the boundless as Mars sextiles Chiron in your 9th House of Expansion. If you allow others to impact your views and show you new ways of thinking and being that you never even considered before, the results can change your life for the better. All you need is an open mind.
